Berlin 2018 – still a thin year for Australians but omens are good

Believe it or not, one of the key Australian films in Berlin this year relies entirely on the homely art of knitting.

Two weeks ago we were anxiously hoping for more as Berlin announced that Picnic at Hanging Rock and Gurrumul are on the official program. After all, the showing at Sundance was distinctly mean. 

At home, Sweet Country and We Don’t Need a Map are hitting the cinemas, while Hotel Mumbai, Breath, 1% and Cargo are carrying a lot of hopes. But a decent round at Berlin would get rid of the sense of hiatus which seems to have hit the brand in the international festival market.
