After fifteen years, the half hour Catalyst program has been axed. It replaced the half hour Quantum show, which ran for sixteen years, so the ABC has dealt with science via a magazine style program ever since 1985. Instead, the ABC will broadcast seventeen hour long documentary specials each year.
