Welcome to the 18th edition of the Sydney Underground Film Festival!

Get ready to dive into the wild and wonderful world of this year’s most daring indie cinema! From September 12th to 15th, we’re bringing you a lineup that’s sure to shock, entertain, and inspire.

We’re kicking things off with a bang— celebrating 50 years since the making of John Waters’ anarchic masterpiece FEMALE TROUBLE in glorious SMELL-O-RAMA! And what better way to close out the fest than with the must-see doco SCALA!!! If you’re a cinema/music/art lover, you’ll love the story of the wildest cinema ever!

Over the four days, we’ve got a killer selection of films—13 Australian Premieres, to be exact! You can explore whacky quantum mechanics alongside Machete, go on a comical metaphysical rollercoaster with Daaaaaali, experience a sentient orgasm-granting kombucha scoby or partake in the rebellious depravity of Bruce la Bruce! Plus, YOU CAN’T STOP THE MUSIC is back on the big screen, remastered and ready to rock Dendy Newtown for the first time in 40 years! And naturally, our beloved short film sessions are back—if it’s wild, weird, or just plain bonkers, we’ve got it!

We can’t wait to see you there!
