Some books make you wish you had been there when they were written. Andrena Finlay and Sue Milliken have collaborated on the modestly titled Producing for the Screen: a handbook.

They are a formidable pair, with 30 feature films, television dramas and documentaries and a total of 76 years of production experience between them. It is impossible (and tactless) to work out the number of brilliant but difficult people they have wrangled, and the unpleasant surprises that would have reduced lesser people to hiding under the desk. Producing is, after all, the art of turning limitations into art.
