This course creates an environment in which students can develop their own portfolio of skills to focus on their future careers as music professionals. It is a creative, practical course that enables musicians to create new work across musical boundaries, learn how to record and distribute their works, and market their talent. Students create new music from the first year, and can compose and present work in a wide variety of styles and contexts, both in solo or ensemble modes. They can choose pathways such as creative technologies; performing and recording new music; composing for media; and music industry management, promotion and social engagement. In their third year, students focus their practice through involvement in transdisciplinary projects, which may involve film, dance, drama, games, writing and technical production. Purpose built industry-standard music recording studios enable students to hone their skills in a professional setting, and they can highlight their work in Brisbane’s live music venues.
