Stanley Hawes Award - Call for Nominations (Expired)

AIDC is calling for nominations for its 2021 Stanley Hawes Award recipient.

The $5,000 Stanley Hawes Award is presented annually at the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the Australian documentary and factual sector.

Nominees can come from anywhere in Australia and from any facet of the industry. Eligibility includes (but is not limited to) producers, directors, broadcasters, distributors, educators, editors, archivists, cinematographers, impact producers, sound recordists, and other craftspersons and technical specialists

Nominations for the Stanley Hawes Award are now open and the deadline has been extended to 23:59 AEDT Sunday 17 January 2021.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In order to nominate someone for the award, nominees must fulfil the following criteria:

Be nominated by a current AIDC member. An AIDC member is anyone who attended AIDC 2020 or is registered to attend AIDC 2021. Alternatively, memberships can be purchased prior to submission for $33 (inc. GST) by emailing aidc@aidc.com.auPlease note, this membership does not grant access to the 2021 AIDC Conference.

Be a producer, director, editor, cinematographer, sound recordist, presenter, facilitator, educator, broadcaster, distributor, commissioning editor or any profession deemed significant within the non-fiction screen sector.

Have made an outstanding contribution to the Australian documentary or factual screen sector for at least 10 years.

Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

JUDGING PROCESS

The award recognises entrepreneurship and vision as reflected by the nominee’s body of work or their contribution to the screen sector.

Nominations will be judged against this criteria via secret ballot by the AIDC Board, with the winner invited to present a keynote address to all delegates at AIDC. 

PAST WINNERS

The Award was established in 1997 to honour documentary producer and director Stanley Hawes– Producer-in-Chief of the Australian National Film Board and Commonwealth Film Unit from 1946-1969 – and recognises the significant support he gave independent filmmakers in the documentary sector.

Since its inception, twenty-one recipients have be recognised for their outstanding contribution in the tradition of Stanley Hawes.
