What's On

Description: Makers' Film Festival : Call out for short films!

This is an open call for submissions – short films about craft and making – for the first 'Makers’ Film Festival' to premiere in Perth in May 2021 and then tour Australia, and overseas.

The Makers’ Film Festival 2021 is a short film festival with a focus on craft, design and the handmade. We are calling for submissions from Australia, New Zealand and countries of the Indian Ocean Rim - including South Africa, Kenya, Madagascar, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

We are looking for a diversity of approach in both craft and film-making to illustrate the breadth and wonder of craft practice, skills, makers and materials from across Australia. Films can be as a short as 30 seconds, but preferably not longer than 10 minutes.

Read more about the Makers Film Festival at Maker&Smith. Fees and terms apply. Read the T&Cs and Spec Sheet.

Deadline for submissions (extended due to COVID-19): 30 November 2020.

The inauguration of the MFF follows Maker&Smith’s successful, and ongoing, tour of the UK Crafts Council’s Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival. This new collection of short films is in alignment with the first Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (Sep-Dec 2021 in Western Australia).
