The Drawings of Yves Saint Laurent

(Re)discover the genius of one of the greatest fashion designers of the 20th Century through thousands of his extraordinary fashion sketches

“These sketches hold such a perennial force that one can scrutinise these designs and understand everything: the genius of the creator, his perfectionism, his avant-gardism, even his suffering. The richness of his sketches reflects that of his existence.”Claire Touzard, Grazia France

Get ready for an extraordinary journey through more than 50 years of the Yves Saint Laurent archives, through thousands of sketches from his 40 years of haute couture collections, to his irreverent work for stage and TV productions.

Much like Manolo Blahnik (who also features in this season), Yves Saint Laurent sketched ideas constantly, creating new silhouettes, new codes of dressing and anticipating major changes in society. Joining us on this journey of discovery are Yves Saint Laurent’s former life and business partner Pierre Bergé, fashion historian Oliver Saillard (who recently curated The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier at the NGV), his biographer Laurence Benaïm and a variety of other key figures.
