Akira

The iconic and hugely influential movie based on the beloved manga by Katsuhiro Otomo

“A phenomenal work of animation with all the hallmarks of an instant cult classic.” - Janet Maslin, New York Times

Neo-Tokyo, 2019. The city is well on the way to rebuilding after World War III. Kaneda and Tetsuo, two high school drop-outs, are members of a joy-riding motorcycle gang who stumble upon a secret government project to develop telekinetic humans, apparently for use as weapons. Tetsuo learns of the existence of Akira, the project's most powerful and dangerous subject.

Based on the seminal manga comic and widely regarded as a landmark anime film, Akira has inspired works all over the world, from The Matrix films toInception.
