Tropfest 2018 – who’s feeling rosy about their chances?

Only one finalist doesn't come from Sydney or Melbourne, but the gender balance is getting better and some of the stories come from minority cultures.

Nine of the sixteen finalists are men. Ten come from NSW, five from Victoria and one from Queensland. Four of the five Victorians were women. One is sixteen years old, four are in their twenties, five in their thirties, while three are most likely over forty. They feel like a particularly interesting group of ideas with a minimal number of one gag films.
