The Toronto Awards system is pretty strange. The highlight award is the People’s Choice, partly because it is a good indicator of success in the US awards system. It reflects the TIFF focus on deals and the marketplace.

Now Warwick Thorton’s Sweet Country has won the Platform Award, a more substantive prize with a distinguished jury. It is a wonderful moment.
