Remember how we hate horror movies in Australia? Paramount took a deep breath and put A Quiet Place out on 282 screens, scored $8558/screen and took $2.6m at the box office. Pretty good, but not the US level of success.

In the US it had the second best first weekend this year behind only Black Panther. It cost $22m to make, was expected to take $39m and actually banked $65m. It was written and directed by comic actor Jim Krasinski, who starred with Emily Blunt – they are also a family. He was the executive producer and they acquired the spec script together. It had a Superbowl extended ad.
