Mirene Igwabi is a young Brisbane filmmaker who has just won the Dendy Award for Best Short Film with Adele.

It is the story of an African child bride whose family becomes increasingly desperate as they realise their way of life is unacceptable in Australia. In lesser hands it could be an invitation to melodrama, but the film is spare and evocative, with a great sense of visual communication and emotional precision.
