Lion is now having the official, gold-rolled ridgy-didge dream run from Australian audiences. And it is not that lonely feeling that comes when we go off like a rocket on a film and the rest of the world goes ‘meh’.

Between Thursday and Sunday Lion took $4.2m off 254 screens, at an average of $16,525/screen. It is at number one, and has pulled $5,006,578 from the box office including previews. The next closest film, XXX3: The Return of Xander Cage did under $3m off 331 screens at a mere $8,971/screen. Nothing else comes close.
